Hello parents of 5C.
The first week is done. As I'm sure you're aware, quite a bit of time is spent early establishing routines, getting used to new surroundings and teaching styles. This is going to be a great class and a fun year.
To give your child an advantage you can review the things we're doing in class. They should know the continents and oceans, (provinces and capitals are coming up.) We've been learning geography by using google earth, which you should download onto your computer if you can. It's free and a lot of fun. In math basic facts are always a problem and they should master them. Playing card games, math games, using flashcards, computer games and asking them questions as you drive all help. If you're wondering what we're doing, call or email anytime and I can fill you in. You're not going to see tons of homework (AKA busywork) coming home this year but that doesn't mean they have nothing to learn or do. I'm hoping to assign things that are more creative and get them thinking...homework might also mean extra spelling, writing, reading comprehension work etc. if it's needed. We're studying chemistry in science and you can look at some of those concepts together and repeat some of the experiments we do and discuss them.
That's all for now.Have a great long weekend!
