Hello again everyone! I hope you are ready for the week ahead. We spent time this past week doing more testing to get information about your kids and to find out what skills and concepts we need to focus on right away this year. We have done testing of vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, reading fluency, math concepts, math basic facts and general geography.
This week:
In language arts, we will be working on sentence construction and addressing some common problems in writing. Students will also be recording themselves reading short passages and work to improve their reading fluency. You will see some spelling come home as well. You can always check the work they have been doing by looking at their writing on our class kidblog. Your child can give you their password and you can log in under their name at: http://kidblog.org/MrMaltais2012-2013/
In math, please continue to have your child work daily on basic facts...they need it. We are now up and running on mathletics and you can log in through the parent portal,(see Friday's letter) again with their username and password. Our class was in the top ten in Canada last week, so let's encourage our kids to get us there again! We will continue to work on mental math strategies this week as well as more number sense concepts, such as expanded notation.
We will continue our study of Canadian geography and history this week in social studies and we continue to have exciting experiments in our chemistry unit in science.
Please email or call me if you have any questions or concerns.
