It has been a busy week. I've been away for PD for our computer project. Report cards went home.
We've begun our Weather unit in science. We are working on multiplication of two by two-digit numbers. Practice! Basic facts are getting better but are still not where they need to be.

We've been working hard on getting our math facts fluent. It takes a lot of practice. Speaking of practice, we've been doing handwriting every day. We will be doing two-digit multiplication next week and continuing with a project in social as well as more experiments and experiences in science.

Sorry for the lack of blog updates lately, we have been busy. Here's what we have been up to this week.
Science: We're been learning about wetlands and are prepared to identify many of the plants and animals that we will see on our field trip on Monday.
Be sure to bring: sunglasses and a hat, bug spray, sunscreen, a bagged lunch (no items requiring a microwave)
Social Studies: we're working with 5B on the final outcomes in social studies. Topics include, WWII, the creation of our flag, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and more!
Math: Finish the algebra review pages. Algebra test on Wednesday.
LA: We've been doing some intense journaling nad writing 200-300 words per day.
As always, we continue to work on grammar and vocabulary. We're also working on a novel study.
Art: We're working on portraits: Come see our study of noses posted in the hall near the library. We've started working on eyes.

We're reading a new novel, "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." It is a a Newberry Award winner.
We're working on creating a virtual debate using a site called, "Goanimate."

We've been very busy working on our digital stories for social studies, finishing and reviewing fractions and decimals and now adding and subtracting decimals. We've written a story in LA, finished our novel study for Bridge to Terabithia. In art, we've been working on shading with charcoal. We will have a quick quiz on our museum trip tomorrow. We are also collaborating with a grade four class for education week.

Well, the math test will actually happen tomorrow. We're ready, we're set. In social, our dioramas are going in the front display case of the school so we need to continue our research of our groups in order to create information sheets, posters, etc. to accompany our fabulous shelters. We will be finished our weather unit soon and have begun to review. We will start electricity in the near future. We continue with geometry in math. Terms to know: parallel, perpendicular, diagonal, horizontal, vertical, intersecting.
I will be away for the next two days so look for homework information on the blog on Friday. Have a great week!

We have been studying the aboriginal people of Canada in social studies and as part of our examination of their lifestyle (before Europeans came to North America) we have been building dioramas of the shelters used. Examples include igloos, wigwams, and tipis as well as Iroquois and Haida longhouses. This has been a lot of work but the end product is turning out great. Pictures will be posted soon.
We will soon be finishing our weather unit in science and will be doing tests and quizzes for those concepts over the next couple of weeks.
In math, we are completing the first part of our shape and space unit which involves measurement. One more review booklet went home today and we will work on it tomorrow, over the weekend, and on Monday with the test coming on Tuesday.
In language arts we are completing a five-paragraph essay on an animal and continue to work on becoming better readers and writers.

Correct math, did more work on volume with cm cubes, building shapes and calculating their volume.
We finished our social studies project on National Parks and should be able top discuss them.
